NYFW Fall 2010

Overall there was a lack of "omph" (fist pump insert) to fashion week this year. I found that there were a lot of repeated ideas (yes- fashion has its cycles), but some of these designs we have seen less then two FW RTW's ago.

Here are a few that caught my eye instantly:

I. beige/grey toned dresses:

1. preen
-i love the small detail of the key hole right under the brassiere section. something so feminine can have a strong structured wave right underneath.
2. cushnie et ochs
-it may be difficult to see- but i love the texture on the shoulder seeping down the dress. its done so elegantly.

3. doo.ri
-anything that resembles lanvin's drapery (although i cringe when done poorly) i adore. doo.ri hits the spot when it came to tailoring this dress at the right spots especially along the hips.
4. halston
-i am always in love with structured/architectural pieces. maybe its my background. but this is to die for in everyway. i want it.
5. herve legar by max azria
-the small detail along the hips where some of the fabric flutters out. amazing.
6. jason wu
-drapery well done- the mix of the nude chiffon with the subtle hints of darker hue fabric underneath.

II. trouser look:

1. jenni kayne
-those of you who really know me know that i am not a huge fan of color. I definitely lack color in my wardrobe but these trousers stood out to me like candy to a kid. they are so vibrant in hue and the drop waist fit makes it feel more relaxed but still classy
2. richard chai love
-i love this look because it was very casual with a little bit of flare. the sparkling top may suggest a bit of formal attire but the structured grey vest brings it right back down to casual attire.

3. shipley and halmos
-i will always and forever love grey trousers that tapper at the ankles. but the paired with the loose gold tank instantly makes me think of cocktail hour.
4. shipley and halmos
-perfect suit. i would probably wear this to an interview, date, out with friends, to bed. anywhere.

5. doo.ri
-yes you have seen many grey suits- but have you seen it paired with a draped light orange top?? something so simple and classy can have a new life with a new focus.
6. zero+maria cornejo
-i love this outfit because i am addicted to black and the fit is amazing. oversized shoulders, oversized collar, oversized pant pockets. but what takes the cake is the nude belt that just defines her hips AND creates another focal point. fantab.

III. black, noir, nero...

1. yigal azrouel
-the funnel pipping detail on the shirt may be hard to see in this picture. but it is seriously so magical. i think it only works because it is tone on tone.
2. brian reyes
-strong shoulders are always classic. with a plunging V neckline- it gives a little feminine touch.

3. carlos miele
-masculine high waisted silk trousers mixed in with a feminine easy breezy blouse. then capped off with a black vest/throw to give it structure again. perfection.
4. helmut lang
-an everyday look- easy drapes with strong shoulders

5. donna karen
-how can you not have d.karen in your must have list? flawless look with the extremely oversized collar jacket over one of her classic beautiful dresses
6. donna karen
-this is a dress i would love to have. esp if the back had a plunging V. simple but perfect pinches of drapery.

7. vera wang
-perfect mas/fem play. the added shoulder poofs give the outfit a little bit of sweetness but spice no?
8. preen
-again the key hole is killing me. adding the oversize ring-around sweater/jacket keeps the look very polished yet very easy going.

My favs overall for this fall was preen, vera wang, doo.ri, donna karen, and shipley & halmos.

that's all for now. i'll definitely come back with more soon.

xo,
g
